When i connect my truck batery to my truck the battery sparks and the engine makes a funny noise?

last weekend i took my truck to the dry lake bed and totatly fliped my truck sideways. i rolled. but thank good no body damage. but the engine died and i had to get it towed.. i thought the batery was the problem cuz i had no power at all to the whole vehicle so i charged it. but when i connect the battery it sparks and the engine makes a noise like a belt or a blower or somthing is going. i have a 1988 chevy long bed 4 wheel drive single cab with a 5.7 engine. it has never gave a me a problem.for the 15 years ive had it till now. can somone tell me whats wrong with it or how to fix it even.. all the fuses are good. the wiresclose to the winshiled in that box r all good. i think the wires from the battery are grounded still ( from what i can see they are) .. its my daily driver and i cant get it into a shop for 3 weeks cuz my friends going to pay for it. so yea please help
